Another busy weekend at the Miller house.
I spackled the damaged wall that had the old backsplash glue onto it. After work one evening last week, I painted the kitchen. It took 3 hours. Who knew such a small space would take so long.
I love the color and it works so well with the new counters and tile.
I'm happy with how my patch job looks on the formerly damaged wall.
Jon had the huge job of painting the fence. Our fence was in good shape but it was in desperate need of fresh paint. The great thing about North Carolina is that you can find a warm enough weekend to paint even in February!
Here's the "before" of the fence.
The kids helped paint throughout the weekend. They were actually a huge help, especially down low where it was hard for Jon to reach.
Stay tuned for the "after" pics at the end of the post.
How do you know when a quilter has put down a new floor? A quilt thread gets stuck between tiles!
Mom and I got to work laying the new vinyl tile in the kitchen while Mark put down 1/4 round trim in the bathrooms.
Evan helped us by bringing the tiles and cleaning up the trash as we worked.
He helped me lay down a few tiles too.
Charlotte learned very quickly how to put down the tiles and Nana had the great idea to let her lay a few completely by herself in the kitchen closets. She pulled the tiles tightly together and lined them up perfectly.
She was very proud of her new skill.
Once we laid the full tiles, it was time to start cutting tiles to go around the edge.
I was very proud of the tile I cut to fit around this piece of counter. I think I've found my calling as a vinyl tile cutter. Putting in the kitchen floor was one of my favorite jobs so far during this renovation.
I got to glue down the beautiful transition piece that my father in law made for us. He cut, planed, and finished it. It's a beautiful way to ease the slight step up into the playroom.
After about 6 hours of work, the kitchen floor was done. Mark is coming over this weekend to put in the 1/4 round and then we can call the kitchen done!
I painted the bathroom mirror frames. Cans make great painting props.
Check out the fence!
It's so bright and crisp, it's nearly blinding!
It looks great and I know potential buyers are going to see this fence as a great feature of the house.
The metal trim pieces around the fireplace were brass. I bought some satin nickel spray paint and got to work.
Don't mind the dirty hearth. I like the look of the nickel. Another brass item bites the dust.
I made a quick toilet repair. I'm getting pretty good at it.
After the mirror frames dried, it was time to glue them in place. Here's the before picture.
Here's the during picture. I had to kneel on the vanity for what seemed like an eternity to get the epoxy to set. I couldn't use tape because the paint on the frames was still too soft.
After. I've never liked the huge mirrors in our bathrooms. These frames help make them look a little less cheap.... hopefully.
The "before" in the master bath.
Jon helped me hold one of the frames for a little while but then his blistered hands and sore back (from painting the fence) couldn't take it any more.
After
I can't wait to dress up the bathrooms and take some really great pictures of them. They've gotten quite a face lift.
We've now finished all of the big projects and are left with a long list of little things to do before we stage the house. We're aiming for a listing date of March 1st. which leaves us with a little more then 2 weeks to go. Nothing like a deadline to motivate you.

What a great job and how beautiful everything is looking! It was such fun helping you intall the new kitchen floor! I love the quilt thread...oops! I thought I would be teaching you how to install the floor but you ran with it and did an outstanding job - especially on the odd cuts!!! I loved how the kids wanted to be a part of all of it! Jon's fence is amazing and I can't help but chuckle at how much paint he got on himself! It was the nasty job and he did it with a good heart and it looks wonderful! I love the bathroom mirrors - what a difference! Love how you painted them brown to match your paint on the vanities! Just great! Love you, Momma
Oh.....LOVE how the fireplace strips look now that they are brushed nickel! :-))
I still cannot believe you guys did all of this yourselves. Good for you- you saved soooooo much money!
