Look At What I Made!

I spun my very first mini skein of yarn!  Half was spun a few years ago when my Aunt Linda's friend, Joanne, taught us how to spin using drop spindles.  Sadly, Joanne passed away a few months ago.  I will always remember her explaining how loose fluff is turned into yarn simple by pulling it almost apart and putting a twist in it.   If it wasn't for Joanne's spinning lesson and the gift of some of her drop spindles and fiber, I wouldn't have had the rush of excitement that I just had from looking at my first skein of yarn.  I made that.  I took fluff and turned it into yarn.  It's fuzzy and there are thick sections here and there but it's yarn.  It's wrapped around a tupperware lid and tied to keep it from tangling.  It's soaking in warm water to set the twist (otherwise it'd unravel).  After it dries I'm going to knit something.  I'm not sure what it will be but I know it will be special and I know I'll think of Joanne and her spinning lesson whenever I look at it.

What an accomplishment and a lovely tribute to Joanne! I love how you and Katie have such fun and get such enrichment with your knitting! I can't imagine life without hobbies! Joanne would be so pleased that you have taken to her yarn and tools and made it your own. You're a sweet woman Becky! Thanks to Aunt Linda for giving you such a wonderful outlet for your talents!! She's been so very generous. Love, Momma
